It caught my attention that Pampers not only
states the ingredients in its baby wipes, but
declares that they contain no ethanol and no
rubbing alcohol
Ethanol? ... that's good
news to me (as I recognize the harm of ethylene
glycol monobutyl ether)
known by
other names
Synonyms
Alcohol? ... the chemical
I am concerned about is a complex alcohol
(Someone strongly poisoned would be breathing
out in their respiration, could give a 'false
positive' on a breathalyzer for Trooper/Police?)
So, what is rubbing alcohol?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropyl_alcohol
CH3CHOHCH3 ... simply
summarized as C3H8O
Isopropyl alcohol (also
isopropanol
or
rubbing alcohol) is a common name for
propan-2-ol, a colorless, flammable
chemical compound with a strong odor. It has the
chemical formula CH
3CHOHCH
3,
and is the simplest example of a
secondary alcohol, where the
alcohol carbon is attached to two other
carbons. It is an isomer of
propanol.
Being a secondary alcohol, isopropanol can be
oxidised to the ketone acetone. This can be
achieved using oxidising agents such as chromic
acid, or by dehydrogenation of isopropanol over
a heated copper catalyst
