My older brother Arvid is a retired
school teacher. He's 65. He has always
been a physical fitness nut. Kept his
weight down, ran 4 - 6 miles everyday,
worked out with the weights and his
blood pressure was always great, his
cholesterol was always perfect. Two and
half years ago he had a seizure while
doing his morning run. They found out he
has brain cancer, a very rare form of
brain cancer and no one knows just why
people get it. Only 1 in 15,000 people
ever get this cancer. It is also a very
fast acting cancer. He had two brain
surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation.
Just before Christmas they found out the
cancer is growing at a very fast pace.
My Sister-In-Law called Monday evening
to tell me that they have given my
brother about two - four months to live.
So Monday was a sad evening in our
household. We always thought my brother
would out live us all because he took
care of himself so well. He also
prepared well for retirement with
investments and owning his own home.
But, now that seems such a small thing.
It brings back the reality to all of us.
Life is short and unpredictable. The one
good thing about Arvid is that he lived
an honorable life, and most important he
love God and accepted Jesus as his Lord
and Savior years ago. Well, when you
have the time say a prayer for my
brother and his family.
I know that Robert Ryan and Sandy "MarineAO"
also have spouses which are fighting
cancer. We all know what Annette went
through with Andy. It sure is good to
have a family around when life gets
tough.
