Worried About the Mom
My mom's been complaining about waking up sore every day. She says she's sore all over. She's also complaining about chronic fatigue and mental clarity is low. She's 55 yrs old and otherwise in great health. She's quite active, gets sufficient exercise, and eats reasonably well.  My dad died 7 yrs ago which has taken its toll on her emotionally. But it's been long enough to where I wouldn't expect these problems to be related.

Does anyone know of what these symptoms are indicative of, or what type of doctor she should see?

Any help would be great.  - Dr Z  145 posts

Worried About the Mom

Sounds like some of the signs of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome.  The chemical exposure that I suspect for that is 2-butoxyethanol and from the age she is, she is classified as a baby boomer, right? (Singular health issues can be late to show up birth defects from a parent poisoned by this chemical such as WWII soldiers or a parent who worked in manufacturing)

So if she has her own direct exposure, she should be asked about fatigue, and doctors should look for the extra things that would find the fatigue of this chemical ... I would call it 'civilian gulf war syndrome'

At any rate, vapors in eyes is the major exposure.  The chemical is in paint, it is in cleaning products (has she started using new cleaning products?) .... and you can get it 'second hand' by being around someone else who has too much exposure (Their respiration with chemical can get into others' eyes)

Ask if she recalls diarrhea, sniffles ... or severe flu-like symptoms.

Ask her about these symptoms (use any CFS, FM, CFIDS checklist) mine goes heavy on what to look for over time ... in the FATIGUE of EGBE:  AIHA or IMHA

Track changes in blood sugar/bloodpressure/body temp

All doctors should have some familiarity with this odd assortment of symptoms;  getting the diagnosis is meaningless ... just means nothing else is the singular culprit.  IF you only had one issue, don't suspect Ethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether

The exposure for our pets and our babies and anyone in our house ... is this chemical in cleaning products/ paints/ solvents such as those used by carpenters: EGBE or 2-butoxyethanol

The chemical gets in our eyes, and that is showing up as an exposure route to be careful of.

These cats had a horrible end, and the owners suspected that it was the chemical in Spot Shot Carpet cleaner. (Since it was aerosol and had 38% 2-butoxyethanol ...... & the company even bragged about it being safe) ... I suspect so, too

As to school janitors I have heard from several of them. Horrible things happen to them. When we see 'flu' going around at our schools we should first ask what janitors were using to clean the classrooms, the bathrooms ... & whether or not floor stripper was used recently .... NOT suspect it is a virus

Janitor, Dale, a part-time school janitor seems to be strongly affected

Realize this about 2-butoxyethanol

Info on 2-butoxyethanol I shared with Barbara

Saddest part of it all, is that you can't just go to the doctor and find out what ails you ... oh, a few points, but usually people are told that all their tests are normal ... and there is nothing wrong with them.

For your pet to have a diagnosis of AIHA is better than most people get. THAT fatigue is the proof that 2-butoxyethanol is the chemical of harm ... in the CFIDS assortment of symptoms (Now, how can you ask a dog if they are depressed, have headaches, short term memory loss and suicidal tendencies; difficulty concentrating, etc?

Obesity?  May not be your fault

Any of these health changes .... after flu?  *
