"Hmmm, that looks like something that would quickly be picked up on a routine CBC blood test...anemia is easy to recognize" Rob2008
That would seem logical ... however, why is it that in the definition of Chronic Fatigue Immune Dysfunction Syndrome (& subsets of slight variations: CFS, ME, FM) that it is said doctors do not find 'the FATIGUE'

Do you feel fatigued? and have any of the other signs that those in this group would have? Besides horrible headaches, there is serious depression, short term memory loss, those kinds of things

Since for this group there is more than one thing wrong, RDW would be UP for those with AIHA and DOWN for those with arthritic pains, etc, etc, etc. 'the numbers' don't tell what is going on.

My friend had 'anemia' but they couldn't pin it down, and eventually pancreatic cancer showed up after FLU, and after many weeks of horrible headaches and 'the chills'. I asked her in February what they found out about the anemia and she said that she heard no more about it.

From what was going on the last days of her life, it sounded like she died from autoimmune hemolytic anemia. Her feet were turning blue, she had rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath; 'the chills' and probably abnormal body temperature (high or low)

She died on March 2 of this year.

I think that if doctors would have the lab techs LOOK at the red blood cells they would find some irregularities. But for the most of people they are concentrating on one of the side issues, and the anemia that is showing, doesn't seem important

Even if 'the numbers' show an appropriate level of hemoglobin, doesn't mean these type of red blood cells can adequately utilize it.

Usually the counts of red blood cells are borderline normal, and this anemia 'hides out'

FATIGUE that hides out! (look for Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia if 2-butoxyethanol exposure signs are there. AIHA or IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia)

LOOK at red blood cells

&/or grossly misshapen red blood cells  *

(lose the capability to convey oxygen around the body)

    • Enlarged spleen *
    • Elevated RDW
    • RBC 'sticking together?'
    • Fragility of RBC membranes?
    • Elevated 'retic ratio' only at 2.5 days after 'flu' Compensated
    • VERY HIGH White Blood Cell Counts (advanced anemia) *

Shortness of breath is one of the symptoms of autoimmune hemolytic anemia. I found it on the list of symptoms of AIHA in a medical dictionary. I think VP Dick Cheney has had the same symptoms with it being unrelated to any heart issue.

Do you recall a time of flu symptoms or eyes burning and hurting? If the air conditioner leaks, the chemical I'm concerned about that causes this type of anemia ... is a component of what keeps air conditioners cooling.

If my thoughts are correct  ... then I suspect the anemia later in the day comes about as immune system prematurely destroys the red blood cells ... and maybe at night the body is able to make more red blood cells. (Retic rate is slightly elevated 2.5 days after FLU comes on; but falls back into normal range after that)

Thoughts to consider
Health Checklist ... an anemia that hides out:

valdezlink.com/re/medhelp/anemiaoncbc.htm   ... what about too high RBC counts?

I write these web pages to express my thoughts & share information - I have no medical background

About me

Did Pres FDR deal with these issues?  I think so

Does FDR's cousin Daisy's Journal talk about a time when the 32nd President of the USA had 'flu-like' symptoms?

It is now suspected that Pres FDR didn't have polio, but

Not just a virus or cold?  *

Health Changes like CFIDS after flu *

THE Fatigue   AIHA of CFIDS is proof EGBE is the root cause

This chemical won't do just one thing - If you only have one health issue, and/or your parent doesn't have 'the odd assortment of CFIDS symptoms,' don't suspect 2-butoxyethanol poisoning.
