What do Small-sized Red Blood cells mean?

Small Red Blood Cells Red blood cells that are small-sized,

The term 'microcytosis' means small red cells. The three main causes are iron deficiency, some cases of the anemia of chronic disease, and the thalassemia syndromes. Sideroblastic anemia is one of the rarer causes. Not only are the cells small, but they are also pale (hypochromic). It is hard to judge red cell size from a blood film, but as a rough guide, the red cell should be about the same size as the nucleus of the small lymphocyte. The measured 'mean corpuscular volume' (MCV) is a much more accurate guide to red cell size. As a genetic disease or alpha-1, the amount of smaller red blood cells is usually in a higher amount.
Thank you

Somehow red blood cells must be low functioning whether they are higher or lower than average numbers

I think autoimmune action on red blood cells is THE FATIGUE that doctors are looking for for the military with 'syndrome' and for those with CFIDS, CFS, FM

I think the lab tech needs to describe the red blood cells in every way possible, and check kidney hormones / kidney and liver function

I think it is the number one killer in the Nation:  AIHA or IMHA that 2-butoxyethanol exposure would cause / as evidenced by these anemia signs nearing death:  'the chills,' shortness of breath .. rapid heart beat

and that abnormal blood sugar / abnormal blood pressure / abnormal body temp are signs of a larger autoimmune issue (autoimmune hypothalamus)

Exposure to this chemical is very common place in and out of the military setting ... and would look like 'the flu'  http://www.valdezlink.com/re/health/flu.htm

I don't have any medical background; however I became interested in the harm of 2-butoxyethanol when someone in my family was harmed by it at age 18 as he was exposed to the bioremediation chemical of the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill cleanup.  I speak to these workers from time to time and in 2003 I noticed that the signs of 'gulf war syndrome' are similar.  Later I noticed that EGBE and 2-2-butoxyethanol were on the list of solvents and pesticides the gulf war troops were exposed to.  If there were a study done on these two groups I suspect they would look alike
